Ayurvedic Ingredients
and Their Uses
Coconut Oil - Used externally in the treatment of ringworm. Expressed
oil is used in the manufacture of cosmetics and other medicinal
preparation.
White Pumpkin (Dudi) - Oil extracted from the vegetable is cooling.
Lemon - Dissolves cataract and makes the eyesight clearer. It is also
useful in rheumatism and against dandruff.
Brahmi - Oil is also prepared with this drug which is used in habitual
headaches,
to relieve brain fag etc.
Kothmir - Oil is very useful in flatulent colic, rheumatism, neuralgia
etc.
Valo - Used externally to remove oppressive heat or burning of the body.
Gahunla - Fruits are used in leprosy.
Bavchi - Used in leprosy. Leprosy destroyer.
Sitalchini - Used in leprosy. Leprosy destroyer.
Uplet - Used in cough, asthma, chronic rheumatism and skin diseases,
fever and dyspepsia. Applied to wounds and severe ulceration, resolving
tumors with benefit.
Damaro - Used as a vermifuge against ascarides (not tapeworms).
Sandalwood Powder - Cooling application to the skin in arysipelas,
puringo and sudamina.
Nagoda - Used in swelling of the joints from acute rheumatism over
sprained limbs. Oil may be used as bathing oil, for rubbing on the heads
in glandular swellings of the neck, coloughing wounds and ulcers.
Nagarmoth - Cure of chronic skin diseases. It is generally used in
combination with other medicines.
Ratanjot - Application to eruption. Used in rheumatism and palpitation
of the heart.
Shankhpushpi - Given in insanity, epilepsy, scrofula and nervous
debility

Marvo - Used to the temples in hemicramia and to the ear in earache.
Vacha or Vaj - In chronic rheumatism. Burnt to cinder, mixed with
coconut or castor oil and smeared over the abdomen, relieves flatulent
colic.
Bhangro - Relives heatchem when applied with a little oil.
Amla - Tailam to head. Mixed in oil is a useful application for scabies
or itch.
Rose Alba (Gulab) - Petals are cooling and astringent and used to
relieve uterine hemorrhages. |
